Hamish Kerr, MD, MSc, FAAP, FACSM, CAQSM
Fellowship Director, Albany Medical Center
After completing two years of training in Sports Medicine initially back in his native country of Scotland, where he served as the team physician for the men’s youth and women’s national soccer teams, Dr Kerr then completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship at Children’s Hospital in Boston, MA.
Dr. Kerr is currently involved in prevention of concussion, injury surveillance and biomechanics research. He has published articles on tackling in rugby, and heading in soccer.
Dr Kerr is head team physician for the Siena College athletic program who participate in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (Division One). He is the Chairperson of the Medical & Risk Committee for the USA Rugby and serves as a team physician. He is a concussion consultant and tournament team physician for World Rugby and was selected as one of two match day doctors for the rugby competition at the 2016 Rio de Janiero Olympic Games. He is also a United States Olympic Committee team physician. Dr. Kerr is a Senior Medical Educator for World Rugby and trains physicians covering rugby in principles and practice of immediate field side care.
He combines an academic sports medicine practice at Albany Medical Center with practice at Capital Region Orthopaedics. He is a theme leader for the Albany Medical College medical student 2nd year musculoskeletal theme and is heavily involved in graduate medical education with the Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Med-Peds programs at AMC.
Dr. Shatynski is a Board Certified Family Physician with a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine. Dr. Shatynski’s originally from the Capital District and graduated from Guilderland High School. He completed his undergraduate work at North Caroline State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. His medical degree was earned from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.
He completed family practice residency at St. Vincent Family Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. He then completed his Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at St. Vincent Sports Medicine and stayed on as faculty for two years prior to returning to the Capital Region. He is an active member of the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine and American Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Shatynski has extensive experience in a wide variety of sports including football, hockey and endurance sports. He serves as team physician for University at Albany, College of Saint Rose and Columbia High School. He is a medical director for the Mohawk-Hudson Marathon each October and travels with Triathlon Australia to world championships every year. In addition, he works annually in the medical tent at Ironman Lake Placid as well as multiple other mass participation events, often as medical director. He also has extensive experience with musculoskeletal ultrasound for diagnostic testing and interventional procedures such as platelet rich plasma injections.
He has extensive experience lecturing and presenting at regional and national conferences. His personal interests include spending time with his family as well as participating in running and triathlon events. He has completed multiple marathons and Ironman distance triathlons (including Ironman Hawaii).
Yvonne Chow, MD, CAQSM

Dr. Chow is a Board Certified Emergency Physician with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. After completing her residency training in Emergency Medicine at Albany Medical Center, she pursued fellowship training in Primary Care Sports Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where she served as the assistant team physician for the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Flyers, Philadelphia Kixx indoor soccer club, and University of Pennsylvania Athletics. She then helped launch a new Emergency Medicine Residency program at a Level 1 Trauma Center in Texas and worked as core faculty for several years before returning to Albany Med.
In addition to her academic sports medicine practice, Dr. Chow is the Associate Program Director for the EM Residency at Albany Med and directs the Simulation education for the Emergency Department. She serves on multiple national committees for the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM), American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), and Council of Residency Directors in Emergency Medicine (CORD). Her research interests focus on medical education and training.
Dr. Chow has been involved with the CrossFit community since 2008 as a regional athlete and medical team volunteer. She currently holds a CrossFit Level 1 training certificate and has a special interest in promoting health through functional fitness. She enjoys caring for active individuals of all ages, from youth athletes to retired seniors with new exercise goals. Her personal interests include coffee, nature, and managing her home menagerie of 2 kids, 2 dogs, and flock of backyard chickens.
Brady Bowen, DO, CAQSM
Albany Medical Center
Dr. Bowen is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. He is originally from Utah and obtained his undergraduate degrees in Exercise Science and Portuguese from Brigham Young University. He obtained his medical degree from Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, Texas. He then completed a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatric residency at Albany Medical Center and chose to stay for his Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship given the vast coverage and learning opportunities AMC Sports Medicine holds.
Dr. Bowen has a passion for teaching and was excited to stay on as faculty at Albany Medical College given the opportunity to work with medical students, residents and fellows in both Primary Care and Sports Medicine. He is a World Rugby Medical Educator and has clinical interest in diagnostic ultrasound, concussion care and cardiac issues in athletes.
Dr. Bowen has provided medical coverage for a number of regional and national events including Mohawk Hudson River Marathon, USA Women’s and Men’s Rugby 7’s and Lake Placid Ironman. He is now serving as the Assistant Medical Director for Lake Placid Full and Half Ironman. He has served as Team Physician at Siena College and SUNY Albany.
He is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Medical Society of Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine and the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine Society.
Tracey Viola, DO, CAQSM
Adirondack Medical Center, US Olympic Training Center
Dr. Viola is a Board Certified Family Physician with a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine. Dr. Viola is a born-and-raised New Yorker, growing up in Wantagh (Long Island), and completing her undergraduate and masters work at the University at Albany, where she also played soccer. She earned her medical degree at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, and continued her studies in Primary Care at Albany Medical Center, and Sports Medicine at the University of Connecticut.
Since fellowship, she has practiced at the Lake Placid Health Center in Lake Placid, NY and is a Team Physician for the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid. She is the Medical Director for Ironman Lake Placid, and a volunteer on the Physician Ski Patrol at Whiteface Mountain. She is an active member of the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine and American Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Viola has experience in a wide variety of sports including skiing, bobsled, skeleton, luge, football, soccer, hockey and endurance sports. Her personal interests include spending time with family, running, hiking and skiing.
