AMC Sports Medicine Practice
Situated approximately 15 miles north of Albany Medical Center in Cohoes, NY, the AMC PCSM fellowship’s main site is a multi-specialty office practice with treadmill testing facilities, a neuropsychological testing suite, diagnostic and interventional ultrasound, and close proximity to Siena College. The fellow will see sports medicine referrals, including adults and children with sports concussions, under the guidance of the faculty.
Capital Region Orthopaedic Associates
The Capital Region Orthopedic Associates Bone and Joint Center serves as a secondary training site for the fellowship. At this site the fellow will spend time working with Primary Care Sports Medicine faculty, in addition to elective time with the orthopedic surgery faculty. The site hosts an ambulatory surgical center, and the fellow will gain experience watching operative management of arthroscopic surgical techniques performed by the group’s sports-trained Orthopaedic surgeons, Dr. Maxwell Alley, Dr. Rick Alfred, Dr. Dan Phelan, Dr. Shankar Das and Dr. Andrew Gerdeman. On site X-ray , MRI and physical therapy compliment the facilities. Albany Medical Center’s Orthopaedic residency program is also housed in the building.
Siena College Saints
The Siena College athletic program has been an integral part of the Capital District community for many years. Its Division One programs include 17 sports (7 mens, 10 womens) and over 300 varsity athletes. Albany Medical Center PCSM fellows help perform pre-participation physicals, including baseline neuropsychological testing for student athletes, participate in game coverage for soccer, lacrosse and basketball. Dr. Kerr is head team physician at Siena and Dr. Rick Alfred is the Orthopaedic consultant.
U Albany Great Danes
University at Albany athletics has 16 NCAA Division One varsity teams and over 450 athletes. PCSM fellows will be involved in game coverage, including football, and pre-participation physical exams.
